Ashdown House is an all-boarding mixed preparatory school. We aim to have 13 forms for our 200 or so pupils - two/three in each year group, though only for the last 2 or 3 years will we 'stream' according to ability.
Our location is very rural. We are completely surrounded by farm land and are not on a main road. As our children board, there are only 3 occasions during a term when they are allowed out for nights. There is a week's half term, when the children must go somewhere, and each side of that one weekend when they can go on Friday afternoon till Sunday evening. On these weekends we can and do look after some children if necessary but increasingly we find that other parents like to invite them to stay.
Our aim is to provide a happy purposeful atmosphere in which all children can flourish. Most of our children go on to the leading public schools: the most popular recently have been Eton, Winchester and Charterhouse for the boys, and Wycombe Abbey and Roedean for the girls. Some continue with co-education at Bryanston, Ardingly and King's Canterbury.
The prospectus and annual bulletin is available on request and deals with facilities and curriculum in detail.
For 5 years now the school has owned Chateau du Livet in Normandy. During their time at Ashdown pupils will spend the best part of one term there studying in French and exchanging with French pupils.
